Hi I’m back after a long ponder and think through about what this Blog is…. will be…. should be …….could be and I’m afraid to say I still have no answers to those questions …..but I thought is was time to make a start somewhere so here goes…….

Recently I have been talking to a lot of people (parents, teachers, principals, friends, online communities) about how we can better use the world wide web (ie Web 2.0 apps) to enhance our students and children’s learning and onilne interactions. I have also participated in a lot!! of research and online social networking, in forums such as, ning networks, wikis, blogs, facebook, youtube, teachertube and online conferences to get some idea of the potential we have at our finger tips, that being the Internet.

I’m often very taken back by the number of parents, grandparents and teachers who I have spoken to find using the Internet and Web 2.0 apps and ICT rewarding and engaging but also challenging and frustrating. I believe more so than ever parents and teachers are grappling with the idea that their kids and students know more than them about something such as the Internet. “Frustrating, Scary, Complex are often the words I hear associated with the internet. The Internet is developing and changing every day, so much so that some people in the community feel they are loosing touch with exactly what is out there in terms of online use, online learning, social networking and Internet usage in general.

The aim of this blog will be to start some conversations and thinking about how we as baby boomers, generation Ws, Xs, Ys, parents and grandparents start to tackle this very important issue of ensuring we are kept up to date with this changing and exciting world of the web. I hope to develop a network of parents, grandparents, teachers, community members, basically anyone interested in this issue.

The blog will have information, websites to visit, suggestions for things to try, videos to provoke thought (and provide a laugh), places to join discussions and networks with others locally and globally………and much more.

So let’s not wait any longer immerse yourself and let the technology speak for itself…According to Marc Prensky …..

The key point is that new technologies for education are arriving and changing really fast – too fast for even teachers who want to learn to use all of them to effectively do so. (And, of course, there are many teachers who don’t want to use new technologies at all.)Yet our students are clamouring for these technologies to be used as part of their education, in part because they are things that the students have already mastered and use in their daily lives, and in part because they realise just how useful they can be.
